Fireflies bioluminescence: a key issue solved !

July 2013

Researchers of LASIR (University Lille 1), in collaboration with the group of Professor Lukas Hintermann (Technical University of Munich) & Professor Pance Naumov (New York University Abu Dhabi) & Dr. Pascal Didier (Strasbourg University) supported by the Human Frontier Science Program , disentangled, for the first time, the individual absorption spectra for the different forms of the emitters involved in the bioluminescence of fireflies.

Their results, published recently in Chemical Science, set the path for a complete understanding of firefly bioluminescence and for the development of new probes for biological imaging.
